La Familia Project presents Colors of Wellness in Community

Join us at Impact Hub New York Space for a community gathering focused on addressing the barriers to accessing quality wellness and mental health resources for communities of color. Attendees will have the opportunity to engage in our community programming, which includes an introductory live session on grounding and meditation led by LFP's Lead Wellness and Arts Facilitator, Sun Child.

The event will also feature a panel discussion with community leaders committed to fostering resources, education, and accessibility for communities across New York City, Westchester, and beyond. Panelists will share their insights and experiences aimed at enhancing access and inclusivity in wellness initiatives within underserved communities, emphasizing the significance of this vital work.

HEYDI HURTADO |

founder and CEO of Peace Cove Counseling

Heydi Hurtado, LCSW-R is the founder and CEO of Peace Cove Counseling and has been in the mental health field for over 10 years. She takes on a trauma-informed approach to empower the BIPOC community embark on their journey of healing as they learn to embrace their authentic selves, and walk in their purpose. 

She received her Master’s in Social Work from Silberman School of Social Work at Hunter College. She has also completed post-graduate training at Ackerman Institute for the Family, and at NYU Silver School of Social Work in Advanced Clinical Practice.

Dahkil Hausif is a New York City–based griot dedicated to empowering himself and others through storytelling. Raised as a military brat and traveling the world, he spent the past 25 years thriving as a commercial film editor (Beats, Verizon, Bvlgari, GMC), voiceover artist (ESPN 30 for 30’s “What If I Told You…”), and writer-director (Shades of Brooklyn on HBO). Today, Dahkil continues to evolve his craft by exploring the transformative power of narratives—examining where our stories fuel our growth and where they may hold us back. He is also a certified facilitator in sociocracy (consent based decision making).

Rich Rodriguez |

Founder and Head Coach, Harlem Free Fight Academy

Rich is a youth development professional with over a decade and a half of experience. Hailing from the Bronx, he’s worked as an enrichment coordinator and youth facilitator in many NY schools, including public, private, charter, and religious schools. As a lifelong martial artist, Rich founded Harlem Free Fight Academy where he uses combat sports as a tool to mentor youth.

Portia Jones |

Associate Director of Community Youth and Group Services At Family Services of Westchester

Portia Jones is the Associate Director of Community Youth and Group Services at Family Services of Westchester. With over 15 years of experience in the mental health field, she is dedicated to fostering inclusive, supportive environments for both youth and staff. Portia holds a Bachelor’s degree in Behavioral Sciences and a Master’s degree in Organizational Leadership.

Throughout her career, she has been instrumental in expanding youth programs to reach a broader and more diverse population. She recently implemented a staff-centered approach to mental health, recognizing that when staff feel whole and supported, they can better serve the youth in their care. Guided by the philosophy of Ubuntu—the belief in shared humanity and interconnectedness—Portia is committed to building strong, resilient communities through compassionate leadership.

LFP embodies the ethos of "Healthy Body, Healthy Mind," aiming to offer free enrichment programming, wellness initiatives, and mental health resources to underserved communities throughout NYC through our citywide partnerships.
